‘A TON OF LOVE’ || The New Single, Taken From the Album ‘THE WEIGHT OF YOUR LOVE’
Editors debuted their new single, ‘A Ton Of Love’ tonight on Radio One as Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’. The single is released on 24th June and is taken from the band’s fourth studio album, ‘The Weight Of Your Love’, released worldwide by Play It Again Sam on July 1st.
The video for ‘A Ton Of Love’, filmed and directed by the Soup Collective in Manchester is available to watch at www.editorsoffical.com.
‘The Weight Of Your Love’ is the follow up to Editors two consecutive Number One UK Albums, 2007s ‘An End Has A Start’ and 2009s ‘In This Light And On This Evening’. Their debut album, 2005s ‘The Back Room’ has sold over half a million copies in the UK. It is the first album to feature new members Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams following the departure of founding member Chris Urbanowicz in 2012. It was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville with producer Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Of Monsters And Men, Kings Of Leon) and mixed by Craig Silvey (Arctic Monkeys, The Horrors, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver).
Tom Smith has described ‘The Weight Of Your Love’ as ‘having a foot in that alt rock / Americana world’ and of ‘feeling untouchable at times’. Recorded mostly live, it contains their most direct songs to date and also features extra production from Clint Mansell on ‘Nothing’, rescored from the original to become what Tom and Ed Lay both describe as the ‘centrepiece’ of the album. Lyrically focused on ‘love songs…that don’t adhere to the traditional love song type’, the album sees Tom Smith sing in falsetto for the first time on ‘What Is This Thing Called Love’,
Editors make a series of high profile festival performances across the summer, including headlining slots at Belgium’s Werchter Festival, Lowlands in Holland and major appearances at 25 festivals across Europe. In the UK the band play prestigious slots at Glastonbury Festival, T In The Park and Reading and Leeds.
‘A Ton Of Love’ is available as a download from midnight on 6th May when pre-ordering ‘The Weight Of Your Love’ at iTunes. The single is released on 7” on 24th June with live favourite ‘The Sting’ on the reverse. All releases are available for pre-order at www.editorsofficial.com.
The Weight Of Your Love’ is released by Play It Again Sam on 1st July on cd, double cd (with extra tracks), double heavyweight vinyl and digital download.

GHOSTPOET announces second album: ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’
Two years on from the release of his Mercury nominated debut, ‘Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam’, Obaro Ejimiwe aka. Ghostpoet announces his sophomore album ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ which will be released on the 6th May 2013 through Play it Again Sam.
Alongside news of ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’, Ghostpoet has unleashed a teaser track ‘MSI MUSMID’ via his own website www.ghostpoet.co.uk Obaro says ‘MSI MUSMID ’ pronounced “ M S I” “ MUS” “MID” “is a track based on a dream I had where dimsum and noodles were life-long friends who kept squabbling all the time…I try in vain to make sense of it all.”
MSI MUSMID’ is streaming now on both Ghostpoet’s website and Soundcloud, but it will become available as a free download once the song has been re-posted within the Soundcloud community 1000 times.
‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ was co-produced with the talented Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Darkstar, Egyptian Hip-Hop) and pushes Ghostpoet even further in all directions, mixing the abstract and the concrete with uncanny skill. ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ positions Ghostpoet alongside the likes of Tricky and The Streets – modern British auteurs who are as interested in pushing the boundaries sonically as expressing cathartic feelings.

[PIAS] 30 years – new website !

To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we here at [PIAS] Recordings have recently been marking this milestone by re-issuing classic albums from our catalogue on vinyl, including records by pioneering artists such as Young Gods, Front 242, Soulwax, Dinosaur Jr, Crystal Castles, and Mogwai. To compile this history, [PIAS] Recordings’ new website was launched, where you can enjoy rare and exclusive content from our artists!
The [PIAS] story began in Brussels in 1982, when 19 year-old student Kenny Gates and his friend Michel Lambot, owner of local record store, began importing and distributing indie records from the UK using the company name Play It Again Sam. Kenny quickly expanded the business by forming a label with the same name. Fast forward 30 years and today we are a London-based company and one of the biggest independent record distributors in Europe as well as home to two labels, Play It Again Sam and Different Recordings.
Play It Again Sam’s growing roster includes Andy Burrows who had this to say about his label’s birthday: “Play It Again Sam is truly a label to celebrate […]. They’re a record company with a real passion for great music, a rare thing these days. I never thought I could feel so genuinely excited for a record label but I do feel that for them… love ‘em”. Thanks Andy, we’re happy to have you too!
[PIAS] is also looking forward to 2013… With key releases from Agnes Obel, Ghostpoet, Soulwax, Editors … the next 30 years are starting with a blast!
So plenty more to stay tuned in to in the future, but in the meantime we hope you enjoy some of our history and the rare and exclusive content within this site : www.piasrecordings.com
Nick Cave IS BACK
NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS
‘PUSH THE SKY AWAY’ // 18th FEBRUARY 2013
Well, if I were to use that threadbare metaphor of albums being like children, then Push The Sky Away is the ghost-baby in the incubator and Warren’s loops are its tiny, trembling heart-beat. Nick Cave
At the heart of Push the Sky Away is a naturalism and warmth that makes it the most subtly beautiful of all the Bad Seeds albums. The contemporary settings of myths, and the cultural references that have time-stamped Nick’s songs of the twenty-first century mist lightly through details drawn from the life he observed around his seaside home, through the tall windows on the album’s mysterious and ambiguous cover.
I enter the studio with a handful of ideas, unformed and pupal; it’s the Bad Seeds that transform them into things of wonder. Ask anyone who has seen them at work. They are unlike any other band on earth for pure, instinctive inventiveness.
I don’t know, this record just seems new, you know, but new in an old school kind of way
Push the Sky Away, the fifteenth studio album by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds will be released in February 2013 on CD/ Ltd CD-DVD / Vinyl / Digital.
Track one “We No Who U R” is available from 3rd December.
