Agnes Obel announces the release of her new album ‘Aventine’
Released 30th September 2013 on Play It Again Sam
31.08.2013 – Live @ [PIAS] NITES, OLT RIVIERENHOF, ANTWERP
‘Aventine’ is the eagerly anticipated new album from Agnes Obel, released 30th September on Play It Again Sam. ‘Aventine’ is the follow up to her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Philharmonics’ (2010), which has sold 450,000 copies across Europe, achieving Platinum status in France and Belgium and five times Platinum in her native Denmark, where Agnes picked up five Danish Music Awards (the Danish Brits) in 2011.
Originally from Copenhagen, Agnes has lived in Berlin since 2006, where ‘Aventine’ was recorded at her Chalk Wood Studios between January and May this year. Like ‘Philharmonics’, the new album was written, arranged, and produced by Agnes, who provides piano and vocals. Anne Müller, who has also played with Nils Frahm, adds cello, with Mika Posen of Timber Timbre playing the violin and viola on ‘The Curse’, ‘Pass Them By’ and ‘Fivefold’. Robert Kondorossi of Budzillus plays guitar on ‘Pass Them By’.
“While touring ‘Philharmonics’ I kept on getting all these ideas for recording, and I wanted to explore the cello and other string instruments“ says Agnes of ‘Aventine’. “I recorded everything quite closely, miking everything closely in a small room, with voices here, the piano here – everything is close to you. So it’s sparse, but by varying the dynamic range of the songs I could create almost soundscapes. I was able to make something feel big with just these few instruments.”
Agnes Obel ‘Aventine’ track listing:
1. Chord Left
2. Fuel To Fire
5. Run Cried The Crawling
7. The Curse
8. Pass Them By 9. Words Are Dead
11. Smoke & Mirrors
‘A TON OF LOVE’ || The New Single, Taken From the Album ‘THE WEIGHT OF YOUR LOVE’
Editors debuted their new single, ‘A Ton Of Love’ tonight on Radio One as Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’. The single is released on 24th June and is taken from the band’s fourth studio album, ‘The Weight Of Your Love’, released worldwide by Play It Again Sam on July 1st.
The video for ‘A Ton Of Love’, filmed and directed by the Soup Collective in Manchester is available to watch at www.editorsoffical.com.
‘The Weight Of Your Love’ is the follow up to Editors two consecutive Number One UK Albums, 2007s ‘An End Has A Start’ and 2009s ‘In This Light And On This Evening’. Their debut album, 2005s ‘The Back Room’ has sold over half a million copies in the UK. It is the first album to feature new members Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams following the departure of founding member Chris Urbanowicz in 2012. It was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville with producer Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Of Monsters And Men, Kings Of Leon) and mixed by Craig Silvey (Arctic Monkeys, The Horrors, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver).
Tom Smith has described ‘The Weight Of Your Love’ as ‘having a foot in that alt rock / Americana world’ and of ‘feeling untouchable at times’. Recorded mostly live, it contains their most direct songs to date and also features extra production from Clint Mansell on ‘Nothing’, rescored from the original to become what Tom and Ed Lay both describe as the ‘centrepiece’ of the album. Lyrically focused on ‘love songs…that don’t adhere to the traditional love song type’, the album sees Tom Smith sing in falsetto for the first time on ‘What Is This Thing Called Love’,
Editors make a series of high profile festival performances across the summer, including headlining slots at Belgium’s Werchter Festival, Lowlands in Holland and major appearances at 25 festivals across Europe. In the UK the band play prestigious slots at Glastonbury Festival, T In The Park and Reading and Leeds.
‘A Ton Of Love’ is available as a download from midnight on 6th May when pre-ordering ‘The Weight Of Your Love’ at iTunes. The single is released on 7” on 24th June with live favourite ‘The Sting’ on the reverse. All releases are available for pre-order at www.editorsofficial.com.
The Weight Of Your Love’ is released by Play It Again Sam on 1st July on cd, double cd (with extra tracks), double heavyweight vinyl and digital download.

Two years on from the release of his Mercury nominated debut, ‘Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam’, Obaro Ejimiwe aka. Ghostpoet announces his sophomore album ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ which will be released on the 6th May 2013 through Play it Again Sam.
Alongside news of ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’, Ghostpoet has unleashed a teaser track ‘MSI MUSMID’ via his own website www.ghostpoet.co.uk Obaro says ‘MSI MUSMID ’ pronounced “ M S I” “ MUS” “MID” “is a track based on a dream I had where dimsum and noodles were life-long friends who kept squabbling all the time…I try in vain to make sense of it all.”
MSI MUSMID’ is streaming now on both Ghostpoet’s website and Soundcloud, but it will become available as a free download once the song has been re-posted within the Soundcloud community 1000 times.
‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ was co-produced with the talented Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Darkstar, Egyptian Hip-Hop) and pushes Ghostpoet even further in all directions, mixing the abstract and the concrete with uncanny skill. ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ positions Ghostpoet alongside the likes of Tricky and The Streets – modern British auteurs who are as interested in pushing the boundaries sonically as expressing cathartic feelings.
